Creating Product Classifications

Product classifications are used to categorize products in SnowCloud. This allows you to group similar products together for reporting purposes. For example, you might create a product classification for “Lift Tickets” and another for “Rentals”.

In this article, we’ll walk you through creating a new product classification in SnowCloud.

Understanding Product Types and Classification

Before creating any new product classifications, it’s important to understand the different types of products available within SnowCloud. These include:

  • Access Products: Used to grant access to specific areas or activities within your operation. For example, lift tickets or trail passes.
  • Subscription Plans: Used to offer recurring services or access to your operation. For example, season passes or memberships.
  • Gift Cards: Used to sell gift cards that can be redeemed for products or services.
  • Lesson Products: Used to sell lessons or classes at your operation.
  • Retail Products: Used to sell physical goods at your operation.
  • Rental Products: Used to rent equipment or gear at your operation.
  • F&B Products: Used to sell food and beverage items at your operation.
  • Discount Entitlements: Used to offer discounts on products or services.

When creating product classifications, you’ll want to create them under the appropriate product type to ensure that your products are properly categorized.

Creating a New Product Classification

  1. Start by logging into your SnowCloud account.

  2. From the left side navigation menu, click on Accounting, then locate the Product Classification section

From here, click on the product type that best suits your new classification.

  3. You should now see a list of existing products within the selected product type.

To add a new product classification, click on the Plus icon at the top right of the page.

  4. The first field is Season. This field determines the time period for which the classification is valid. For example, if a product is only available for a single season, you would create a classification for that season. After that season, the product would need to be reclassified to maintain access.

For products that are available for multiple seasons, you can select the Any option.

  5. Next, use the Class Title field to name your new classification.

This is the name of the classification that will be displayed in the system and will not be visible to customers.

  6. Remember when we created a new GL Code? Here’s where it’s going to come in handy.

Using the Class GL Code dropdown, select the GL code that will be associated with this classification.

If you don’t have a GL code created yet, you can do so by following the steps in the Creating General Ledger Accounts article.

  7. Optionally, you can enter a Description for the classification. This is useful for providing additional context to other administrators.

  8. Another optional field is the Pass-along Credit Card & SnowPay Fee(CCSP) to consumer setting.

This setting allows you to pass along the credit card and SnowPay fees to the consumer by adding them to the cost of the product. If you want to pass these fees along, enable the setting.

  9. Depending on your product type, additional fields may be available.

For example, if you’re creating an Access product, an Activities field will be available.

For more information about the specialized fields that are unique to different product types, refer to the Product Types Overview article.

  10. Finally, click on the Save New Class button to create the new classification.
