Creating Your First Product
Now that you’ve completed the initial setup process, it’s time to create your first product in SnowCloud. In this article, we’ll walk you through the steps to create an access product and make it available for sale.
Let’s Create a Simple Product
Earlier in this guide, we performed several initial setup steps. These setup steps were put in place to ensure that future changes are as quick and painless and possible. Now that those are out of the way, it’s time to reap the fruits of our labor by using those configurations to create a new product.
In this section, we’ll create a simple lift ticket product. This product will allow us to tie together everything we’ve set up for far, from accounting rules and reports to access and entitlements.
-
Start by logging into your SnowCloud account.
-
From the left sidebar, click on Products, then under the Activity Products section, click on Tickets & Passes.
-
You should now see a list of all existing products. To add a new product, click on the Plus icon at the top right of the page.
-
First, let’s name our product using the Item Name field. For this example, we’ll call it Lift Ticket.
-
Using the Season field, we’ll select the season that we will be selling this product for. Since this is a basic product that we will be selling every year, we’ll select Any.
-
Next, we want to use the Activities field to select any activities that the product includes. In this example, we’ll select Skiing.
-
For ease of tracking and reporting, you’ll want to establish a unique SKU for the product. You’re free to use whatever pattern works best for your business. For this example, we’ll use TICKET-LIFT-SINGLE.
-
Next, you’ll want to attach an Accounting Classification to the product. This ensures that the product is correctly categorized within your accounting reports.
Note that only Access Product classifications will be selectable. If you’re not seeing one, you might have missed a step in this guide - see the Creating Product Classifications for more information on how to create one.
-
To help showcase your product within your shop, a Description field is available for each product. As this will be shown to customers on your shop, it’s a good idea to put some marketing spin on it that will help to seal the deal.
-
As with the description, the Tags field is another public-facing item that customers will see when viewing your shop. If you have similar products, such as different types of lift tickets, adding tags here will help customers browse and discover related products.
-
Optionally, you have the ability to restrict the product to particular age ranges. To do so, use the Ages dropdown to include any ages that will have access. If left blank, all ages will be included.
-
Next, we want to set a price. Use the Standard Price field to set the price, before any discounts or fees.
-
Finally, click on the Save New Item button to save your new product.
Congratulations! Your first product has been created! Take a break, celebrate this new milestone, then visit the next section, where we’ll attach an entitlement to your new product.
